CATALYSING THE INDEPENDENT DOCUMENTARY MOVEMENT

IDPA's main concern is to promote the independent documentary film movement in the country. In this context, we disseminate information that is useful to independent film makers. Apart from promoting the theatrical exhibition of documentaries, IDPA has also had some success in helping film makers with marketing and opening broadcast possibilities in India.

We keenly watch the government's policies on media and communications. Recently IDPA representatives met the Minister of Information and Broadcasting Shri Jaipal Reddy in New Delhi to discuss issues related to film certification. They have also been in dialogue with the Ministry to press for removal of the requirement of censorship for screenings of Indian documentaries in film festivals.

Distribution is crucial to the sustainability of documentaries as a genre and we are working towards this end with other film industry bodies and government. We also seek information on developments that impact production and distribution of our work in the industry and the global arena and disseminate this to our members.
