New year's wishes to all!
Hope you have noted that the deadline for the IDPA Awards for Excellence is extended to Jan 25th, so please rush the films you may have just finished and urge your friends to do the same.
If you spot any promising films, please tell the film maker to go to www.idpaindia.org and download the form. If nothing else, the entrant gets a page in our booklet with a synopsis of the film, the filmmaker's photo and cv and two pictures from the film, which is a useful thing, especially for a young person. Please especially seek out the younger generation of film makers, many of whom do not know about the IDPA whereas they may be wondering if there is a professional body for film makers.
This issue contains two invitations, one from Puri in Orissa and one from Barcelona. If you come across any notices that you would like us to re-circulate through the IDPA Update, please send them to me.

DiBa 2007 will be from the 23rd to the 27th of May. The third edition of DiBa (Barcelona Digital Film Festival) wants to show the top international digital productions, by both well-known and p-and-coming film makers, as well as to instigate the development of digital cinema. The digital media open up the possibility of film making to everyone. The limiting factor for new film makers is no longer money, but rather talent and imagination.
Participate! The inscriptions of DiBa 2007 are already open. You can send your productions for the different sections for the festival. Download the call for entry, the rules of participation and send your project before the 23rd of February.

Here's wishing you a great new year from the BYOFF team...may the year be full of ….what else? BHADAAS DHO!!!!!!!!!
More reason to cheer as we bring you the 4th edition of the bring your own film festival the same chilled out, funky, spunky, informal, happening, cozy gathering where sea and sand meet cinema.
FEB 21 TO 25, HOTEL PINK HOUSE, CT ROAD,PURI, ORISSA, INDIA.
For the uninitiated, here's a quick lowdown:
BYOFF was started in 2004 by a bunch of film makers and film enthusiasts.we wanted to create a space where we could share our work with fellow artists, in a relaxed atmosphere, close to nature, away from big cities and away from the milieu of formal govt run festivals. so we zeroed in on pink house in puri, a hotel half sunk in sand, right next to the beach!!
The idea was if you have a film/docu/short/music video or anything you have made(or participated in) and would like to share it with others, just bring it and we will screen it....no awards, no juries, no selections, no long speeches just freak out.
The first edition was a roaring success and we had a hard time coping with the logistics as we never expected so many people to respond he most heartening part was, that a few people specially made films so that they could be screened at byoff!
The other editions carried on the good work and now we await your participation at byoff 2007 so come with or without a film, and just chill out .we also encourage people to come and sing, dance, perform or showcase their paintings, sculptures, photographs etc. there is time and space for all, you have to just come and find it!!!
All participants pay a nominal contribution which is more in the nature of a cover charge, as you get dinners against it...and you pay a small contribution for screening, depending on the duration of the film this in no way covers the cost of running the festival, so funds and funding ideas are more than welcome. infact this time is a bit of an uphill task, so do pitch in!!

This time we plan to have only one screen (or may be another, if need be so), in the open (unlike earlier when we had a makeshift tent this time we hope to make it a more intimate affair) so screenings will start at sundown and go late into the night, with a dinner break for one hour these will be shown on dvd, vcd and mini dv formats.
Music, dance, theatre etc. can be performed in the evenings before the screening scheduling of films is strictly on a first come first served basis, so the earlier you land up the better some people also send films for screening, even if they cannot come for the festival...these will be shown only if there is time left over priority is given to those who Bring Their Own Films.
Stay and food in Orissa is really really reasonably priced, so whatever your budget, don’t worry, there are tons of options and places in and around Puri and indeed the whole of Orissa is really beautiful, so do keep some time out for travelling.
