Welcome to 7th International Social Communication Cinema Conference!

Roopkala Kendro, a Film and Social Communication Institute under the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs, Government of West Bengal, India which imparts professional training in Development Communication, Direction, Motion Picture Photography, Editing, Sound Design and Animation Creation. Subsequently we craft films for the socially disadvantaged and vulnerable population groups.

As a part of our annual activities every year this Institution has been organizing an International Social Communication Cinema Conference to highlight the issues of existence/survival of common people, violence against vulnerable groups like women and children, human rights, education, environment etc. In 2007 we categorize the screenings into three specific sections viz. (i) General Section, (ii) Broadcast Section and (iii) Narrowcast Section for reaching specific audience segments.

This year in the General Section we have decided to keep a slot on Global Warming, Nucelar Disaster and issues relating to environment and others social issues.

This time we are going to organise the Cinema Conference in between 15th 21st February 2008 at the same venue and with the same nature.

Interested filmmakers and distributors can send their films/documentaries at the undermentiioned address for entry/screening purpose. The last date of submission of entry form is December 31st, 2007. Official selections will be announced in January 2008. You are requested to send the documentaies / films made by you.

Please note that it is absolutely a non-commercial venture in every respect. This may definitely reflect and comment upon the warm relation that we cherish so much.

Hope this Conference will allow us to connect, better understanding with one another, the world and ultimately ourselves.

We cordially invite you to join us in watching some incredible film / unbelievable truths and celebrating the culture and art of non-fiction and fiction films.

Enjoy the Conference!

Wild Card Contest No Theme No Genre

The response and feedback we've received to the first year of FILMAKA has Been tremendous.....so many great films and so many great filmmakers! Thank You for your support and valuable contributions.

The FILMAKA staff and jury were blown away by the quality and the quantity Of the submissions. Unfortunately, it was impossible to award every film That deserved to be recognized. We, therefore, would like to end our first Year with a "Wildcard" contest in addition to the regularly scheduled Competition. One winner will be chosen by you, the Filmaka members, and the other winner will be chosen By the Filmaka staff. These two winners will be allowed to compete in the final Director's competition in January.

The competition is open. That means no theme, no genre. The clip should be 1 to 3 minutes. You have total creative freedom but remember to tell a great story and to create memorable characters. "Wild Card" begins December 1st and ends December 28th. The winners will be announced January 6th.
Filmaka.com is an online competition, judged by award winning filmmakers including Werner Herzog, Neil LaBute, Paul Schrader and Wim Wenders, and founded by leading independent producers and financiers.
