IDPA UPDATE, the newsletter of the Indian Documentary Producers’ Association comes to you as an occasional publication. This is part of our effort to keep you updated about developments in the world of the short film that may be of interest to film makers. This issue contains a list of upcoming film festivals compiled from various sources.

Global Visions Film Festival 2007 Call for Submissions

Global Visions Film Festival in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada is requesting that documentary filmmakers from around the world submit their new films and a festival application to our 26th annual international documentary film festival.
Global Visions' mandate is "To promote and present a festival featuring films and videos which will act as catalysts for reflection, discussion, and inspiration.
This year's festival dates are November 1 - 4.
Deadline for submissions is July 1, 2007. Submissions should be on VHS or Region 1 DVD, in NTSC format; in English, or with English subtitles.

There is a $25 submission fee.

Call for entries of documentary projects for the pitching of Docusur Market

DOCUSUR MARKET is calling for the presentation of projects for the pitching sessions which will take place on 16th November.
The main objective of the pitching is for the projects for documentary films that are at the development stage to get funding.
For this purpose, the projects that are selected by the judges will be presented to a widely-based international panel of Commissioning Editors.
The projects must be at the development or script-writing stage and must be made in a country in
Africa, Asia or Latin America, or must deal with a subject related with these regions or must be on north-south relations.
Unlike other markets, DOCUSUR MARKET does not require that projects should have a minimum of assured funding. Thus, DOCUSUR MARKET can be the first step for many producers.
Deadline for Submissions: 10th July.

All films must have been completed after January 1, 2003.
All non-English entries must be in their original language with English subtitles.
This is not a competitive category and there is no submission fee. You can send more than one film.

Third Eye Asian Film Festival

Third Eye Asian Film Festival scheduled to be held in Mumbai, from 1st to 8th November 2007 is searching for some good short fiction and full-length feature films from Asia.

Besides the regular sections: "Spectrum Asia" of contemporary Asian cinema, "Indian Vista" of recent Indian films, "Reflection" of Asian classics and "Retrospective" of Asian masters, there will be "Competition" sections for full-length features and short fictions from Asia.

Full length features should be the first or second film of the Asian directors who must have debuted not before 2005. Best film in this section will be awarded a cash prize of 2000 USD.

Short fictions made within last thee years are eligible for the competition with a cash prize of 1000 USD. There is no entry fee. Last date for sending the entry is 15th September 2007.

FIKE 2007 - the Évora International Short Film Festival

Joao Paulo Macedo, director FIKE 2007 - the Évora International Short Film Festival, is searching for some good fiction, documentary and animation films within 40 minutes' duration produced after 1st January 2005 from all over the world for the FIKE to be held in Evora, Portugal from 16th to 24th November 2007. 
FIKE 2007 is an independent International Competitive Short Film Festival organized by the non-profit associations University of Évora Film Society and Páteo do Cinema - SOIR Joaquim Antonio de Aguiar.

Ismailia International Film Festival for
Documentary & Short Films

The Ministry of Culture - Egyptian Film Center - Ismailia Governorate is going to organise the 11th Ismailia International Film Festival for Documentary & Short Films from 3rd to 9th September 2007 in Ismailia, Egypt. Besides the regular sections viz. out of competition, tribute, focus, retrospective et al, there will be competition sections for the short fictions (below 60 minutes), short & long documentaries (below & above 60 minutes), short experimental and animation films.

Films produced in 2006 & 2007 are eligible to participate. 35mm prints, SP & digital betacam and DVDs are accepted.

34th International Festival of Sustainable Development Films ekotopfilm 2007
October 22nd – October 26th 2007

Participation Conditions

1. The titles shall be submitted by authors, producers, film and TV companies, TV academies, international and national organizations, institutions and individuals to be their producers, distributors, owners or filmmakers.
2. Only titles produced after January1, 2006 shall be accepted for the international contest. This limitation, however, does not apply for those titles to be screened off the competition. Titles are not allowed to be submitted to ekotopfilm 2007 if submitted in previous festival years. Participation at other festival is not a limitation. The number of submitted titles is not limited.
3. The length of the submitted title should not exceed the length of 60 minutes.
4. There is no entry fee for the submission of titles or personal participation.
5. All titles must be submitted either DVD or VHS.
6. Properly filled entry form with all required data together with the title must be delivered to the festival address by latest August 1, 2007.
