IDPA UPDATE, the newsletter of the Indian Documentary Producers’ Association comes to you as an occasional publication. This is part of our effort to keep you updated about developments in the world of the short film that may be of interest to film makers like yourself.

The 2nd Annual Indie Short Film Competition 

Open Call for submissions

The 2008 Indie Short Film Competition Rules & Regulations 
 
The Indie Short Film Competition is an annual international short film and video competition open to all independent filmmakers from around the world regardless of their nationality or origin. 
 
EACH ENTRY MUST INCLUDE:  
1.) Entry form - filled out clearly and completely, with an original signature. Entry forms can be printed out (or photocopied) from the competition website at www.indieshortfilms.net/entryform.html or you may request that one be mailed to you. 
 
2.) Short film or video entry on DVD or VHS, regardless of original shooting format. Total running time must be between 1 to 40 minutes in length, including front and back credits. 
 
* Entries MUST be NTSC format only. PAL is NOT accepted. 
* Foreign DVD's entries must be formatted for Region Code 1 (North America), or Region Code 0 (Universal). 
3.) Entry Fee. (US Currency Only) 
 
* Payments from countries outside the U.S.A. must be in the form of a US bank check, money order, cash, or credit card. Personal checks are not accepted from outside the U.S.A.

FINAL DEADLINE: ENTRIES MUST BE POSTMARKED BY DECEMBER 31, 2008 OR EARLIER! 
 
Entrants may submit multiple entries in as many categories as you wish, or submit the same short film in multiple categories. Each entry requires a separate DVD or VHS tape, entry form and entrance fee. (Entrance fee is non-refundable) 
 
Finalists will be announced in February, 2009 and winners will be announced in March, 2009. Finalists and winners will be notified by mail and/or email and will also be listed on the competition website at www.indieshortfilms.net. The Indie Short Film Competition will use its best efforts to announce the winners at the designated time, but will not be held liable for any unforeseen delays.

Docedge’09 Asian Documentary Forum  
organised by Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute 
In association with European Documentary Network 
7 to 12 January, 2009 

The workshop has been the most important documentary event in the subcontinent where independent projects/ideas are developed through high quality professional training by international experts in the pitch labs. The objective is to enable filmmakers to voice their thoughts and experience for the international audience. The workshop intends to bridge the creative and financial gap among young filmmakers of Asian countries with ideas reflecting their unique social, cultural and political realities. 
 
The selected projects are pitched to a panel of selected international Television Networks and funding /grant-making bodies for possible co-funding/commissioning, guidance and comments. 
 
The workshop also includes discussion forums on documentaries, screening, HD master classes and channel/fund presentation

11th Mumbai Film Festival (Feb. 19 - 26, 2009) 

The 11th Mumbai Film Festival will be held in February 19 - 26, 2009. 

The Festival has Dimensions Mumbai competition which aims at exploring new creative talents among young media professionals and students by providing an opportunity to showcase their work in the process of capturing the buoyancy and variety of life in this Financial and Entertainment Capital of India in any digital format, including their mobile telephones.

 
An eminent jury will decide the prize for the Best Film. The awards include cash prize of Rs. One Lakh to the Best film (for Director) and Rs. Fifty Thousand to the Second Best Film (for Director).

The last date of entry for Dimensions Mumbai is 10th January 2009.

The I.D.E.A. call for entries

 
CALL FOR ENTRIES

FOR THE INTERNATIONAL DIGITAL EMMY® AWARDS AT MIPTV 2009   

Deadline for Entries is January 12, 2009  

For the fourth year in a row, The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is recognizing excellence in content created and designed for viewer interaction and/or delivery on a digital platform (i.e. interactive TV, mobile, internet, etc.) originating outside of the United States.    

The entry forms for the 2009 International Digital Emmy® Awards are now online. The forms, along with the rules & regulations can be found by visiting http://www.iemmys.tv/awards_entry.aspx.  

The award categories are:

• Fiction 
• Non-Fiction 
• Children & Young People  

Eligible submissions must have been created and initially distributed outside of the United States.  

The deadline for entries is January 12, 2009. Winners will be announced at a ceremony during MIPTV 2009 in Cannes, France.

International Festival of Films on Tribal Art & Culture 2009

at Indore, MP (India)

 
VANYA (an enterprise of Dept of Tribal welfare, Government of Madhya Pradesh) and iiMC (Indian Infotainment Media Corporation) take pleasure to announce its Second Edition of “International Festival of Films on Tribal Art & Culture 2009” (IFFTAC-2009) at Indore, Madhya Pradesh which will run from Feb 6-9, 2009. The festival will culminate with a screening and awards ceremony on 9th Feb 2009. It will be an International event that will bring the best films on Tribal culture and art from all over the world.

 
Under the stewardship of Shri Shriram Tiwari as the Festival director, and Mr. Devendra Khandelwal, Chairman, Organizing Committee, IFFTAC-2009 will showcase films based on the theme of Tribal culture, art, religion, architecture, philosophy, traditions, mythology, history, life-style, food, costumes, jewellery, sports and various aspects associated with them. It will also offer awards and certificates to the participants. Many renowned film personalities would grace the festival. One way economical fare and 2 day free accommodation may be considered for overseas participants whose films will be selected for screening in the competitive section of the festival. 
 
IFFTAC-2009 will welcome films not exceeding 150 minutes and can be as small as 1 minute. Film can be feature, documentary, narrative, fiction or animation. Films must be available on DVD for presentation or preview purposes. We cordially invite you to participate in the competitive section of the festival. Entry is open and free, for all film makers… amateurs, students and professionals with respective separate competitive sections for them, and the last date for submission is Jan 15, 2009.
